Founded in 2001 on the principle that access to health is not only a universal right but an enabler for individual empowerment and independence, the Association for the Development of Women’s Health (Association pour le Développement de la Santé des Femmes) aims at delivering health and education services to women in vulnerable positions.

Built upon the realisation that access to health for women living in precarious conditions is much more difficult than it is for men, the association is fighting this discriminatory gap.

In order to strengthen assistance programmes for vulnerable women, ASDF relies on a team of volunteers to deliver health services, including medical and gynaecological consultations, screenings for gynaecological cancers and provision of shelter to victims of violence.

In light of a growing number of women living in precarious situation, ASDF expanded the scope of its activities in 2014 and organises patrols in order to reach out to those women to most in need. From the distribution of hygiene kits to the management of pregnancies, the range of services are broad enough to accommodate a significant number of women in need.

In 2017, the ASDF supported a total of 709 women, in the following four situations: (1) women living in slums; (2) women involved in prostitution; (3) homeless women living in the streets or in centres; (4) women living in social hostels.
